Director of Music
I am a 1970 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie HS in Elwood. After completing my music degree, I returned to work for the Elwood Community Schools.
I am a graduate of Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Area Music Education in 1975. I obtained my Master of Arts degree from Ball State with an area emphasis in Music Education in 1980. I have contiued my education with class work and conferences for the past thirty years. I taught at Elwood Jr. High for six years before moving to Elwood Community High School. I have taught in the Elwood schools for over thirty years and find each year a new experience and challenge to create more musical experiences for our students. At ECHS and EMS I am responsible for the the Panther Band, Crimson Suite Show Choir, Crystal Sonore', Panther Jazz Band, Concert Choir, Panther Guard and a Music Appreciation class. At EMS I teach the Beginning Band, General Music, and the EMS Choir.
I am an acitve participant in professional groups such as ISSMA, IMEA, IBA, MENC, and ICDA which allow our Elwood students access to HONOR bands and choirs. I am a very active member of ISSMA where I host contests, serve on the state marching band committee, and am presently serving my fifth (3 year term) on the ISSMA State Board. This board is made up of 24 elected directors and 8 administraotrs from throughout the state. On this board I assist with establishment of policies and guidelines for ISSMA events for our music students, am an advocate for music education in the state, and work at various venues when needed.
Our Panther Bands and Choirs are extremely busy in our community and represent Elwood throughout the Mid-West at various events, contests, festivals, and special performances.
